Have you seen the video for Wale's "Pretty Girls?" Well, the images in the video kicked off a firestorm of comments on Facebook and blogs across the innawebs. People are pissed that these so called "pretty girls" weren't plucked from more colors of the rainbow. Check the vid:
Ok, so vid-blogger Joy Daily went o-f-f about the video also.
Seems like this is an age-old battle that's as old as the rap video genre itself. But, do you agree with Joy? What's your call?
people need to watch the whole video, there are some light girls featured in the intro, but later they have darker girls even some thick ones and some girls with short hair too. the video is ok. where i'm from (detroit) black people come in all shades of brown...
ReplyDeleteanother week.. another assumed issue.. another yawn...
ReplyDeleteMaybe he doesn't like chocolate?!? But to the Joy's point......where are the girls that are the complexion of the rapper himself?!?
ReplyDeletePeople of color do come in all shades; but often people do focus on those with fairer skin. If I were the artist, I think I would have noticed that when I saw it the first time.
