Health: Avoiding the Pink Slip Blues

In this tough economic climate many people are getting pink slipped. It has happened to Fawnda recently, so I thought I would share some tips that got me through the rough spots. Being downsized is no excuse to fall to pieces. Here are 6 tips to make sure you keep it movin' and healthy during the transition:

1) Invest more time in your relationships - You have more free time, so why not spend it nurturing relationships with your significant other, children or parents? Yes, your stressed but at the end of the day, you should work to live, not live to work.

2) Revamp your job search - This is a good time to evaluate whether you want to continue in your current field or pursue your lifelong passion. My father always told me to find something that you would do for free and follow that road.

3) Feed your family for less - Cooking is the last thing you want to do after working a hard day. Now that you have extra time, cook more, it's cheaper and healthier.

4) Lose those extra pounds - There is always a birthday or some occasion to celebrate at the office. These celebrations have gotten in the way of dropping the weight. Now you can control what you eat without the pressure to eat cakes and junk.

5) Set a fitness goal you can keep - With extra time on your hands you can realistically spend more time working on your body. Exercise also increases endorphins that help make you feel better.

6) Log on to improve your memory - Now you can feel free to spend hours feeding your Facebook addiction without the risk of your boss catching you. Spend time networking and reaching out to family and friends. A 2006 study found that keeping these connections can ward off memory loss.

It's a season that many go through but it shouldn't give you a reason not to take care of yourself. You are your first priority!
