Today's health post takes a closer look at the Raw Food Diet. The diet is based on eating unprocessed and uncooked plant food, such as fresh fruit and vegetables, sprouts, seeds, nuts, grains, beans, dried fruit and seaweed. Followers believe heating food above 116 degrees destroys enzymes that can assist in digestion and absorption of food. Cooking food also reportedly diminishing it nutritional value.
Here are some of the benefits:
Increased energy
Improved skin appearance
Better digestion
Weight Loss
Reduced risk of heart disease
Some cooking techniques are used such as juicing, soaking nuts and dried fruit, blending and dehydrating. Only purified water is consumed, never tap. Some people experience a detoxification reaction when they start the raw food diet so you should consult your doctor if you are considering it. The diet may not be suitable for children, pregnant women, anemics and people at risk for Osteoporosis. Also, certain deficiencies can occur.
Overall, Fawnda is a big proponent of healthy eating and is going to try this diet, at least during the week! Happy eating and I'll report the results soon.
