Brew Bits: Depiction of Black Women on Reality TV

In particular, one of my fav shows, 'The Real Housewives of Atlanta', a show intended to showcase the affluent upper echelon of the black community. Does it do that in your opinion? Or is it pretty much laden with childish, she said/I didn't say bulljive? Sure we laugh at their antics but does this show make the stereotypical neck rolling, finger in your face black woman something to envy? I would have to say no. And I also find it peculiar that only one is an actual house wife, that would be NeNe, who is also the one always accused of being the most 'ghetto' outta the bunch. Lisa runs several different business', Sheree is a recent divorcee, Kim is a 30 year old mistress who looks every bit of 67 years old and newcomer Kandi seems to have her act together on the independence front but surely being engaged to a man with 6 kids will not get her closer to grasping the 'house wife' title. Perhaps Bravo, the netwok which airs the show has a loose definition of what it actually means to be a house wife but for a show that intends to show us peons how the better half lives I think they fail royally.

Imma keep watching, don't get it twisted, but I know for sure that I personally know women, who are real housewives, meaning they they take care of home and don't work..... at all. They also don't meet their friends for drinks to jump them junior high school style and try to gingerly yank their wig off.

Do you think this show is positive or negative? Does it have that "in yo face white America!!" factor? I say no, but it is entertaining.

CNN had some guests on to discuss the show and its impact on perceptions some might have of black women, what are your thoughts?
