Hump Day Hmmm.... Where's the Romance?

No like seriously, did someone kidnap it? Is it on strike? Is it somewhere being British nannied? Where the fork is the romance anymore? It seems like women these days are more hardcore and not too interested in that butterflies in your tummy feeling that comes from getting swept off your feet. Bills need to be paid, babies need to be fed and rent/mortgages need to be paid. "Romance me in heaven" seems to be the attitude of the modern day woman. But is it really? Sometimes I think those reasons, while all valid, also provide an excuse for us to wave our hands in disgust at romance but behind closed doors we crave it. Who wouldn't want a man to do his homework and find out her favorite things and spontaneously surprise her with them from time to time, write her lil love notes just cause, paint her toes, wash her hair, stock her fridge til it can't close with food, now that's some romantic shit right there! ( ok that's me rearing off.... my bad) but you know, seriously, who would turn their nose up at a man paying enough attention to them to know the lil things that make you smile? I sure as hell wouldn't. Today's world is, man sees visually stimulating woman, obtains the digits, texases her (text message to the rest of us) and also texases pics of his penis, ya know, provided he has some handy, take her out to eat (provided it's a pay week) and then try to get a return on his investment the night he does (feel her up in the car, stop at 7-11 for condoms and then get it rockin til the cops come knockin).

No romance, no butterflies, no long night conversations where you're both like "you hang up, no you hang up, ok we'll hang up at the same time" and still neither one of you hang up. I miss those days but a recent encounter with a young lad gives me hope. He invited me out and actually remembered something that I told him and had it there for me upon my arrival which means he was actually listening to me. I was totally thrown off by his thoughtfulness, it was almost astonishing. Granted, it wasn't an earth shattering piece of info but it was the kinda of thing I'm used to having to tell someone 45 times. I know you're thinking, "so what?! he listened" but I challenge you to tell a man you like and one you think likes you back, something basic about you and then 2 days later ask him about it, I guarantee you he won't remember. *sigh* guess that's just the world we live in......

This letter Patrick Swayze wrote to his wife got me to thinking about romance and almost made me cry like the first time I saw 'Ghost' as he was walking away from Demi headed to heaven.

In his upcoming memoir, The Time of My Life (out Sept. 29), Patrick Swayze writes about his incredible 34-year marriage to wife Lisa Niemi.

"How grateful I am that you chose to love me," he writes, according to ABC's Good Morning America, which featured an exclusive audio clip of Swayze reading from his memoir. "I know that because of you, I've found my spirit. I saw the man I wanted to be. You are my woman, my lover, my mate and my lady. I loved you forever, I love you now and I will love you forever more."
