Hip Hop Takes A Stand Against Rape

Several hip hop heroes plan to speak out against the brutal gang rape of a 7 year old New Jersey girl in late March. Jay-Z is attending a rally in support of the girl in Trenton this Saturday. Russell Simmons is hosting the event which will include an appearance from the Rev. Al Sharpton and pre-taped messages from Ludacris, Chuck D. and the Poor Righteous Teachers.

The girl was raped by seven young men, ranging in age from 13 to 20, while she was under the “care” of her 15 year old step-sister. The 15 year old took an undisclosed amount of money and sold herself and the 7 year old for sex during a party on March 28th.

Here’s more on the story if you haven’t heard about it.

The 15 year old’s grandmother says the family is getting death threats from local gangs.

I'm happy to see our hip hop figures taking a stand when many simply opt to put out less than stellar messages in their music but never have a real opinion on anything important.  It's taken me a few days to even talk about this story, much less contain rage and actually form thoughts to blog about it.  I'm sure you'll have your own commentary to add and feel free to do so.  I don’t think hell has a place for these men. The devil might be too nice for them.
