Brew Bits: A-Phi-Nay?


Alpha Phi Alpha, the nation's FIRST fraternity established by African-American men has halted new membership intake NATIONWIDE. The move follows a recent aggravated battery case against a neophyte at Fort Valley State University in Georgia. The fraternity's national president, Herman "Skip" Mason, Jr., said the decision to temporarily stop the intake process was due to "the failure of some of our members to behave honoraby and with care".


So Brewchies, what do you think? Is suspending intake the right move?

It makes no sense to end intake if they are not going to take real steps towards making sure it doesn't happen.

Alpha Kappa Alpha halted intake nationwide after that early 2000s incident. Some things have changed, but let's be real...

It'll take more than halting intake and threatening people's letters to change the hazing culture that exists in the BGLO intake process. It's ingrained -- people see it as part of the task of getting in. That's what has to change...
