Donnie Simpson Leaving Radio?

Word on the street is DC radio DJ Donnie Simpson is trying to bust out of his contract with WPGC. Apparently, the ratings are slumping over there.  I wouldn't know... my iPod doesn't seem to get the radio.

DCRTV and The Washington Post report Simpson is in negotiations to end his contract early.  He still has a year left on his current contract, but he's reportedly trying to leave before March 11, the anniversary of his hiring by WPGC.  Superhead's nemesis Big Tigger would then move to mornings and take Simpson's spot.

Simpson's been heard in DC for 32 years.  Maybe he'll go back to Video Soul.  Oh, wait...

I think his show went down when Chris Paul left. At first I didn't like Donnie. Seemed like he would put me to sleep while I was trying to make my way into work, but after awhile I caught onto it and started liking it.

He, Chris Paul, and his son Donnie Jr. made the show feel like they were three guys sitting around in the barber shop. Some of the skits weren't as funny, except for comedian Judge Poole, but it still was something nice and "level" to listen to in the morning.

When Chris left and they hired Angie Ange, I think it went downhill from there. It had too much of a younger hip-hop feel to the show.

If he does leave, I'll actually miss him. A friend of mine joked that Tigger sounds like he falls asleep while talking. That and the time he cried on the radio about a break up.
