Malcolm X's Assassin Is A Free Man

Thomas Hagan, the man who admitted his role in Malcolm X's assassination, was paroled today after serving 44 years in prison.

Hagan is the only person to admit to killing the activist in 1965 in New York's Audubon Ballroom.

Hagan says he has "deep regrets" about his participation in Malcolm's killing.

Hagan had been serving time in a minimum-security facility where he took part in a work-release program. He's held a job at a fast food restaurant for 7 years. Under the terms of his parole, he must stay employed, adhere to a curfew and support his children.

Hagan is 69 years old. Had he lived, Malcolm X would have turned 85 on May 19th.

FREAKNIK: The remix?

That wild and crazy festival that attracted thousands of students from historically black colleges and the streets during the 90s is reportedly trying to make a comeback. Seems as though there is a website dubbed "FREAKNIK Atlanta" which states that the event will be held April 16-18th, but city leaders say don’t break out your booty shorts yet because no one has filed for a permit for any public events on those dates. I couldn't find the website either. FREAKNIK started as a small celebration in 1983 and grew to a thousand strong smorgasbord of coloreds convening in the streets with booty shorts and Boa Constrictors. The event caused major gridlock and basically grew too big for police to contain so they SHUT IT DOWN in 1999.

A 49 year old, HIV positive Houston man is accused of sexually assaulting a 15 year old boy he met on MySpace. The man paid for the teen to fly to meet him in Houston, where he sexually assaulted the boy for 10 days. It wasn’t until the boy returned home that he got the message the man is infected with HIV.

Here’s the story…

I really want to know what’s going on in that house that the kid can be AWOL for 10 days? Was anybody looking for him?

Brew News: Rapes On The Rise In Haiti

Adding insult to injury in Haiti, rapes are on the rise as that country’s capital city continues to recover (using that word loosely) from January’s devastating earthquake.

Women and girls (as young as 2) are reportedly being raped (some, gang raped as well) in alarmingly high numbers as many residents continue to live in tent cities as a result of the quake. Those tent cities have no lighting and there’s really not much security to speak of from the country’s police force, so when night falls, attackers target women. Adding to concerns about security are the 7,000 prisoners who escaped their jail cells during the earthquake. So, you can imagine the utter mess going on there.

Rape was already a major problem in Haiti anyway, but now there are increased concerns about higher STD and HIV rates. One in 50 Haitians are infected with HIV, the highest infection rate in the Western hemisphere.

The media may have turned off its spotlight on Haiti but the country is still in need. If you want to donate to the relief effort, click here.

Brew News: What Do You Do When Jail And Hell Aren't Good Enough?

Aswad Ayinde, director of Fugees video 'Killing Me Softly,' charged with impregnating daughters. An award-winning video director was unmasked Thursday as a brutal, bizarre serial breeder who repeatedly raped his daughters to create a "pure" bloodline.





"He said the world was going to end, and it was just going to be him and his offspring and that he was chosen," Beverly Ayinde testified at a pre-trial hearing.
Also known as Charles McGill, Ayinde faces the first of five trials next month - one for each daughter he allegedly violated, said Lisa Squitieri, the Passaic County prosecutor handling the case.



Ayinde, held on $1 million bond, was hit with 27 charges including aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault, lewdness, child endangerment, aggravated criminal sexual contact and criminal sexual contact.

The Kid Snitched

An 11 year-old boy called the po-po on his mother and her boyfriend for dealing weed out of their Oklahoma home. The boy tried to get help from other adults but was told to just shut his trap. Since no one wanted to get involved, he called one-time and told the cops about how he was taken on drug runs by the boyfriend.

When cops got to the house, they found a quarter pound of marijuana, scales and other druggie items. The two have been charged with felony counts of drug possession with intent to distribute and misdemeanor counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Ya can't even run a successful drug operation from your living room anymore. Damn snitches!

Seriously though, I commend this kid for looking out for himself and his younger brother. It takes a lot of heart to show tough love to your own mother.

Brew Crime: Does "G" mean Gump?

A former contestant on MTV's coonerific docu-drama "From G's to Gents" is on the run after police say he beat the Brewshyt out of his baby girl. Markice (I hate that YOU people and your hybrid names) "Kesan" Moore's daughter suffered two broken arms, and broken leg and three cracked ribs? Moore told TMZ (how did they catch up to him but the police can't?) that he's only responsible for his daughter's broken wrist suffered back in July when the little girl was under his care. Look at him, he's looks a little "Meep, Meep" to me anyway!

Donnie Simpson Leaving Radio?

Word on the street is DC radio DJ Donnie Simpson is trying to bust out of his contract with WPGC. Apparently, the ratings are slumping over there.  I wouldn't know... my iPod doesn't seem to get the radio. 

DCRTV and The Washington Post report Simpson is in negotiations to end his contract early.  He still has a year left on his current contract, but he's reportedly trying to leave before March 11, the anniversary of his hiring by WPGC.  Superhead's nemesis Big Tigger would then move to mornings and take Simpson's spot.

Simpson's been heard in DC for 32 years.  Maybe he'll go back to Video Soul.  Oh, wait...

Don't Be Mistaken For A Hooker!

It's hard out here for the single gal.  First, you got mainstream media saying you'll get hit by lightning before you find a suitable mate.  Now, if you try to go out "hunting" for potential man-kill in Washington, DC, you're liable to get thrown in the clink for trying to protect yourself.

Carrying three or more condoms in DC could mean you're a prostitute, well, in the eyes of the law, that is.  DC police are setting up “Prostitution Free Zones,” in which officers can arrest anyone they suspect of being a sex worker. If you get nabbed in one of those "Zones" with more than three condoms in your purse, it's sorry Sally.  The cops could use that as proof you're selling the cooch! The practice is also on the books in San Francisco and New York City.

Critics say the real danger is to actual prostitutes who will put their health at risk if they aren't allowed to carry more condoms.

It's real in the field out here ladies.  Now, let me go clean out my purse.  I would not do well in jail.

Brew News: Eunice Johnson Dies

Eunice Johnson, the widow of Ebony founder John Johnson, has died.  Johnson came up with the name for the magazine.  She also boosted the role of Blacks in fashion with the Ebony Fashion Fair, an annual fashion tour.  She also created the Fashion Fair make-up line.  (My first lipstick was FF, it was gold.  #dontjudgeme).

Johnson will be remembered as a driving force in the fashion industry. Washington Post fashion columnist Robin Givhan says Johnson "let the fashion industry know that the African-American community is incredibly viable as an audience, that it has a lot of creative spirit."

Eunice Johnson was 93.

Brew News: Percy Sutton Dies

One of Harlem's major power brokers has died. Legendary civil rights attorney Percy Sutton died Saturday. He was 89.

Sutton represented Malcolm X before moving on to careers in politics and media. He was the son of a slave. Sutton moved to Harlem after serving with the Tuskegee Airmen in World War II. He represented Malcolm X and his family from his Harlem law office for many years. Sutton served as Manhattan's borough president in the mid-'60s and later, he and his brother, bought WLIB-AM, making it the first black-owned radio station in New York City. Sutton was the man behind the 1981 purchase and major renovation of Harlem's famed Apollo Theater.

President Obama said this about Sutton's death:

Percy Sutton was a true hero to African Americans in New York City and around the country. His life-long dedication to the fight for civil rights and his career as an entrepreneur and public servant made the rise of countless young African Americans possible.

The cause of Sutton's death has not been released.

Brew News: Boys Choir of Harlem Closes Shop

After more than 30 years of making music magic, the Harlem Boys Choir is no more.

The choir’s last "official" performance was in 2007, which was around the time its founder passed away. Board members and alumni hoped to revive the choir, to no avail.  A former member announced this week that the choir was over.

The choir fell victim to poor money management and there was that sex abuse conviction of a choir counselor that cast a shadow on the choir.

The Boys Choir of Harlem had performed for every sitting president since Lyndon Johnson.

So sad that inner-city kids have lost another creative outlet...and we've lost their music!

Reason #4566 to beat your kids!

While other 4-year-old were dreaming of sugar canes and lollipops, one Tennessee tyke was out doing BIG THANGS! During family sleepy times, he somehow got past the child proof locks, found his Pap Pap's beer cooler in the back yard, and after throwing back half a can of Bud Light (less calories) he stumbled to a neighbors house, broke in, and stole five Christmas gifts, including a brown dress which he promptly put on (then vogued around the living room). Police found the cross-dressing drunk 4-year-old and took his bad ass back to his mamma who told a reporter (after she got all fancy-like for the camera) the little boy wants to go to jail "'cuz that's where his daddy is". Um, eh, yeah...I've got nothin!

Brew News: ABDC Judge Popped For Molestation!

Holy Chester! Shane Sparks -America's Best Dance Crew's version of BoomKack- is in the slamma for 8 counts of child molestation.

Cops nabbed the choreographer/judge this morning on a felony warrant charging him with molestation. The alleged crimes started back in 1994 and went on for years. He's accused of committing lewd acts upon a female child, including oral copulation (ewww!) and other acts.

Sparks is being held on $590,000 bail.

Brew News: Alaina Reed Hall Dies

Alaina Reed Hall, best known for her roles on Sesame Street and 227, has died. Hall was just 63 years old. Finding official confirmation of her death has been sketchy on these here innawebs, but several sites are reporting she passed away this week. Hall had been public about her struggle with breast cancer in recent years.

Hall played Rose Holloway on 227 and Olivia on Sesame Street. She was the widow of actor Kevin Peter Hall, the 7′2″ actor who was the predator in Predator and Harry in Harry and The Hendersons. He was also her love interest on 227. He died in 1991 from AIDS-related complications after contracting the illness from a blood transfusion.

So sad. Let's remember her in better days.

Strangely, the 227 theme song popped in my head last night as I walked from work.  There really is no place like home.  Alaina has gone to her real home above.  R.I.P.

A Milwaukee teacher lost her marbles and cut off a kid's braid during class. Little LaMya Cammon was reportedly "frustrating" said teacher, so teacher lady decided to call the kid up to the front of the class and chop off her hair! Oh hell naw...you know how long it takes to grow a braid worthy of 6 beads, son?!?

Brew News: Charlie Murphy's Wife Dies

Sad news for comedian Charlie Murphy...

MTV reports Tisha Taylor Murphy, the beautiful wife of actor/comedian (and Eddie's brother) Charlie Murphy lost her lengthy battle with cancer.  Murphy died in her sleep inside the couple's New Jersey home Sunday surrounded by family.

50 year old Charlie married Tisha married back in 1997.  They have two children together (he has a 3rd from a previous relationship).

Our prayers go out to the Murphy family. I hate cancer with a passion. It steals far too many from us.

Brew News: Danger is Pregnant Again

It's 5pm and somewheres Monica "Danger" Leon's uterus is outside an office building taking a smoke break...all ready to QUIT THIS BITCH! Word on the curb is that our favorite "For The Love of Ray-J" alum is preggers again! She announced the news on her twit for twats today (@monicadanger). For those of yous who follow this foolishness Ms. Tat-Tat-Tatted-Up Face got pregnant by Nick Cannon's little half brother Gabriel right after she was booted from the Ray-J Ho Sho. Got all that? This could be a publicity stunt but Danger does have that crazy steze so I could totally see her stuffing a little pillow near her belly parts and faking the funk right before she stabs a brother's eye out for not coning home on time. A few posts earlier she accuses a former "employee" of hacking into her account and also asks Fabulous (#myfabolouslife) to lay the pipe. So who knows? She's supposedly due in July 2010 so time will tell.
