Brew News: Pimpin' The System

Roxanne Shante should teach classes about how to pimp the system to these one hit wonders on the radio right now.

25 years after busting onto the hip hop scene with "Roxanne's Revenge," the rapper now boasts the title "Dr." in front of her name. Despite being cheated out of royalties over the years, Roxanne managed to take advantage of an overlooked clause in her first record contract with Warner Music.

The company agreed to fund her education for life as part of that deal. Roxanne used that contract clause to earn a Ph.D. in psychology from Cornell. The label had to pay the $217,000 bill for her education. Getting the label to pay, however, was no easy feat. She was able to attend college for free at first, until she threatened to go public with the story...then the label agreed to honor her contract.

Roxanne started a therapy practice in 2001 to help inner-city African Americans get mental health treatment.

This should serve as a reminder to everyone to always read the fine print!

All this good news makes me wanna spin a little ditty in her honor.

Pimpette in the Pulpit?

It's Sunday. The day of rest. The day to worship and reflect. So I figured this would be as good a time as any to ask sweet White Jesus for forgiveness. I admit that I scan my congregation for the men folk. I know, I know, I'm supposed to be bowing my head in prayer, but I always got one eye on my row to see if there are any cuties. Once I find one I look to see if they are wearing a ring or sitting with their boo. When I get caught looking to hard I yank my eyes back to the good book and try to focus on the sermon. But between all the shoutin' and hollering and laps the ladies do around the church when the preachin' gets good, I still look.

Pimpin' Ain't Easy

Two Arizona teens have been accused of running their own brothel. CNN reports the girls' pimp game was so tight, they rented an apartment SOLELY for the hookin'.
16-year-old Tatiana Tye and 16-year-old Jazmine Finley, were indicted earlier this week by a grand jury. The two were nabbed after a 5-month investigation. Police say the two bragged about the money they could make to help recruit 5 girls from their high schools. Of course, one of the girls has emerged as the snitch. Tye blames Finley for introducing her to the pimpin' game.
