Witches' Brew: Things Negroes Like

Things Negroes Like

If it’s Tuesday, then it’s time for the weekly roundup of Things Negroes Like. Of course, this list doesn’t apply to all Negroes. Like a box of Crayons, there many colors, shapes and types of Negroes, but chances are you know someone (or a few folks) who fall into these categories! So let’s go…

First up today… SKI TRIPS!

Black folks love to buy Uggs and snow suits only to babysit a mug of hot chocolate and never hit the real slopes. Maybe we’ll snow tube or walk through the snow to hit the nearby outlet mall, but ride the ski lift? No ma’am. But we will roll up to Pennsylvania on a charter bus for a Black ski weekend to see Johnny Gill and Mint Condition. Yeah, I said it… find your evidence here.

HAIR GREASE

What is the fascination with putting lard on your scalp? Does it bring back childhood memories of Grandma greasing you up good in preparation for the hot as hell pressing comb to straighten out your edges? Come on people…let’s rise to the occasion and opt for shiny hair over heavy, weighed down tresses. It’s 2009… let’s leave the Blue Magic on the shelf and opt for some lightweight oils that moisturize and nurture our hair, not grease it up for frying chicken.

ZIPLOC/PLASTIC WRAP/”TO GO” OPTIONS

If I invite you to my function, that does NOT mean I’m inviting you to leave with a doggy bag. Please leave your foil, your plastic wrap, your Ziploc bags and your Gladware at HOME! Coming to my party does not mean that you get a free pass to not cook for the next few days. Come, eat, drink, be merry…then LEAVE with a full tummy, not a “to go” plate in your hand. And don't even get me going on the folks who stuff a little foil in their purses before they go to the all-you-can eat spot!
