Brew News: Skeee-fired?

The ladies of Allllllpha Kappa Allllllpha (*insert that tongue flip thing here*) Sorority, Inc. want to give their national president the pink & green boot!

Barbara McKinzie allegedly used sorority money to commission a $900,000 wax figure of herself.

Eight AKA members are now suing. They want McKinzie to return the money. A corporate credit card was reportedly charged $375,000 for a lump sum payment.

Sources say last summer's historic AKA centennial celebration in Washington, DC is at the heart of this serious matter. The organization charged a registration fee that was twice as high as it had been in previous years, which generated a big boost in funding for the sorority.

The lawsuit claims McKinzie got approval from the directors but not the overall membership of AKA.

The Washington Business Journal also reports the sorority's accounting and investment strategies are under a microscope as well.

Alpha Kappa Alpha is the nation's first sorority for African-American women and has amassed quite the list of famous members.
