Brew Fashion: Guest Blog - Welcome To The Diva Closet

We love fashion here at the Brew and apparently many of you do too!

Brew reader "Closet Diva" has a mean closet game and she's got some tips she wants to share about how to keep your closet stocked with essentials so you won't leave home looking like this.

Run it...
Welcome to the Diva Closet
First, where is my mirror?
Invest in a full-length mirror, which will assist you in making the right decisions before leaving the house.

Spanx dat azz...
Stock up on foundation garments like Spanx and Assets.  Whether you call them "body shapers," new school girdles... whatever you want to call them... USE them.  They hide a multitude of sins!  Foundation garments smoothe everything out and make you look put together.  If your foundation is all messed up your outfit is bound to follow.  Body shapers are for everyone, from the skinny minis to the thick thigh mamas.

Mean shoe game
There is a shoe for every woman.  I don’t want to hear that you can’t walk in shoes and that's your reason for wearing sneakers everyday.  There is a shoe for you! Check out Cole Hahn's Nike collection. Their shoes and boots feature Nike technology for comfort. There's also an assortment of really cute flats if you don’t like the 4-inch pumps or boots.

Remember your shape
Okay ladies, we come in a range of sizes and everything isn’t for everyone.  Just because it looks good on that small mannequin doesn’t mean it will have the same effect on you.  When trying on clothing use the mirrors in the dressing rooms, they show you all angles. (For Pete's sake, never ask the sales girl cuz she's just hunting for commission... she'll tell you anything to make a sale!) And if you don’t like using the dressing rooms, buy two of those full length mirrors.

Mix & match...with caution

Opposites do attract in relationships and clothing but don't take it overboard.  You don't want to go outside looking like a clown just threw up a box of crayons on you.  Try to pair prints and patterns from similar color families.

Accessorize it!

Belts, chains, rings, earrings, bracelets and headbands are all good... but NOT all together.  Pick one or two and leave the rest home.  If you have it all on at the same time it just looks crazy and none of the items will make a statement.  KIS=Keep It Simple: For example, if you have a big pair of earrings on leave the neck bare so all the focus will be on the earrings.  Or, if you have on a stud belt that cinches your waist just right don’t wear a big attention getting necklace, wear something simple or nothing at all.  And, since we are heading into the Winter months please, please, please make sure your tights are in the same color family as your shoes (it makes you look taller!) and YES, a peeptoe can be worn with tights during the Winter.

Closet Diva signing off……..XOXO  Until the next time.

P.S. Don’t be afraid to pick up a fashion magazine, it’s your friend……
