Overpriced “Luxury”: Balmain’s Ripped Tee

The company that brought us Beyonce and Rihanna’s military-inspired shoulder pad-having jackets and Pink’s & Shakira’s MTV red carpet oh no she isn’t wearing my dress moment… is now giving us a serious piece of overpriced “luxury.”

Balmain’s olive green distressed cotton shirt is nothing more than a ripped tee shirt.

They describe it as a “statement staple with cargo pants and ankle boots for a luxe spin on utility chic.” And, they want you to pay $1,625 for it.

Who has fallen and bumped their heads?

Would You Rock It?: Betty Rubble Heels

I imagine if Betty Rubble actually wore shoes, they’d look something like these little numbers from designer Jeremy Scott. Scott is the occasionally quirky designer who sent a model down the runway carrying a handbag that resembled the Hamburglar at one of his shows. So, you get where he’s coming from, no?  Anyway, these “Bone Heels” will set you back $510. If you’re interested… you can pick up a pair here.

So, would you rock 'em?

Would You Rock It?: Light Up Jimmy Choo Sandal

Jimmy Choo is taking it back to the days of L.A. Gear’s LA Tech light up tennis shoes. The shoemaker has designed a pair of 5-inch heeled “Zap” sandals for the glow stick club kids. The shoes light up when you dance…that is, if you have anything to dance about after dropping $2,495 for the shoes. Jimmy Choo released a cheaper version of the shoe for its H&M collabo line, but good luck finding those anywhere.

So, would you rock it?

Brew Fashion: McQueen’s Final Collection

Fashion insiders got a glimpse of Alexander McQueen’s final collection during Paris Fashion Week on Tuesday. The stunning collection was inspired by the Old Masters of painting. McQueen cut all the patterns before his death last month. It’s a shame we won’t see more from this troubled designer.

Would You Rock It?: Dsquared2's Skeleton Heel

A few bones sashaying down the runways of Milan is nothing new, but check out these bones: Dsquared2's skeleton heel! Dean and Dan of DSquared2 debuted these bony numbers on their Autumn/Winter 2010 runway. The look comes in a peeptoe-ish shoe to a full-on boot.

Because “Fat” People Couldn’t Possibly Be Fashionable…

Italian Vogue launched a new website called “Vogue Curvy.”  Ya know, for the thick’ems. Cuz heaven forbid we be included in the pages of any fashion magazine on a regular basis.
(*insert sarcastic sigh and eyeroll here*)

Anyway, the website features photos and videos of famous plus-sized models and celebs (or, Curvy Icons as the site calls them). “Vogue Curvy” also gives daily fashion suggestions and “how to wear” guides for the “glam and curvy,” plus links to fashion and accessories trends seen in Vogue.

Meh! I get that Vogue is trying to teach us "thick in the hips" types how to dress ourselves and all, but thanks... I'm doing okay in that arena.  Plus, I’m kinda over this whole singling-out stuff. Women are women. Designers need to learn how to dress us all.  Period.

Breaking Brew: Designer Alexander McQueen Dies

British fashion guru Alexander McQueen has been found dead in his London home. He was 40 years old. His death comes just days before London's fashion week was due to start. No word on the cause.

UPDATE: The NY Times reports the cause of McQueen's death was apparently suicide, although his family has not made an official statement yet.

Lately, McQueen's designs have been seen on Lady Gaga (she wore his armadillo heels in the Bad Romance video) and Kelis (she wore the same shoes... but in a tragic way).

Certainly, he'll be remembered for the timeless fashion he produced. Here's a look at some of his best frocks (via Entertainment Tonight).
