Brew Bits: HBO Renews “Treme”

HBO is on the Treme bandwagon… hard! The cable network renewed the New Orleans-based drama after airing just one episode last week.

Treme (FYI: pronounced truh-MAY’) is set in New Orleans in the fall 2005, three months after Hurricane Katrina. The series follows a group of residents as they try to put their lives back together after the devastating storm.

1.4 million people watched the debut episode Sunday.  Did you?

Will You Watch?: HBO's "Treme"

If you don't have HBO, this might be the week you'll want to cozy up to the cable man or something. HBO debuts its new show Treme this weekend and if pedigree means anything, this will be a hot one. Treme is the brainchild of The Wire's David Simon and Eric Overmyer.  (Sadly, David Mills, the show's writer and co-executive producer --who also hails from The Wire's team-- passed away last week.)

The series focuses on the music community in post-Katrina New Orleans. Critics say the show may just represent the city like no other film/series has. And, it should be noted while Katrina's aftermath is central to the series, this isn't a crime drama or a "woe is me" type show.

Treme premieres April 11th at 10 pm (ET) on HBO.

Will You Watch?: HBO's "By The People"

HBO is marking the year since then Senator Barack Obama was elected President of the United States with a new documentary called "By the People: The Election of Barack Obama."  It airs tomorrow (Tuesday, Nov. 3rd) night at 9 pm (ET).  The documentary consists of never before seen footage from inside the Obama campaign, from the perspective of Obama's dedicated volunteers.

The documentary also takes an inside look at the First Lady's initial struggle to accept her husband's desire to run for President.

DVR Worthy TV: The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency

For those who wait with baited breath for anything Jill Scott, wait no more. Jilly from Philly is all set for the small screen beginning March 29th at 8:00 pm when her new series premieres on HBO, The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency based on a series of novels written by Alexander McCall Smith.

Her character, Precious Ramotswe is described as "traditionally built" in the novel, tee hee! I am a fan of words or phrases meant to mask calling someone a fatty so that made me chuckle. Anyhoo, I anticipate that it will be good entertainment.
