Brew Quotes: Chrisette Michele

"I was tired of black sistas feeling subject to having their hair pressed and straightened, and damaged, with relaxers, and heat. So I wanted to make short and nappy hair fashionable, and let the industry know that there is nothing wrong with the texture that we have been born with. So I plan to grow it out to the big beautiful nappy hair that I have."

-Songstress Chrisette Michele on why she went "I am not my hair" style and pulled a Britney Spears an Amber Rose and shaved her head.

How do you feel about her new look?

Holy Haircut, Batman!

Check out the new 'do 9 year old Willow Smith is rocking.  She's the ultra cute daughter of Will & Jada Smith.

Now, don't get me wrong, this haircut is cute on say, a Kelis or a Rihanna, but a 9 year old?  Times (and parenting) have really changed.  I remember waiting a looooooong time just to get a chemical in my hair, much less a color or a funky haircut when I was a kid.

Is Willow's hair hot or not?  Would you let your kid rock it?

Carol's Daughter Going Disney

My favorite skin/hair/lips/feet/everything company is in bed with the Mouse! Next month, Carol's Daughter launches a new collection to celebrate the new Disney film "The Princess and the Frog" (ya know, the one where the princess is actually black this time?).

The film is due out December 11th, but you can lather up in these fineries in October. The bubble bath, detangler, shampoo and conditioner will include ingredients that make our (read: black people) hair luxurious! But don't sleep, white folks love Carol's Daughter too! It's equal opportunity smell good!

Good & Bad Hair?

Tyra schooled her audience in the ways of Black hair on her show Tuesday. Not that Model show, the other one, where she talks. Tyra lost the lace front and rocked her old school cornrows to prove her point. Sadly, the “good” and “bad” hair debate never gets old. Not when you have clueless sistas shaking their hair like they’re in a Pantene commercial, talking about their hair has “white girl flow”?!?

"White Girl Flow?"... I QUIT!

“African combs?”… I QUIT!

Is this chick really using slavery to justify her chemical process?

This is a national crisis people. Why isn’t Oprah doing a town-hall summit?

The beauty of Black women is that we have more options than any other women on the planet when it comes to our hair. Braid it, weave it... do whatever you need to achieve it. Just don't put down the next woman if she rocks her style different from yours. Unless, of course, her lace front is doing this!

Split Ends?

My "play cousin" Taraji Henson showed up to a recent event rockin' a new curlier do. Reminds me of Rihanna in the top parts. I'm a bob fiend and she had one of the hottest bobs in the game. So what's the verdict on this new do?

You are the boss of your hair!!!

Ok, as your resident hair doctor it is part of my responsibility to discuss this issue of hair and our daily lives. It is no secret that many of us plan our lives around our current hairstyle. If it rains we call in sick or if it’s that misty annoying ass rain we cover our heads in 49 different head wraps to protect it. So it should come as no big surprise that many of us (and by us I mean the colored ladies) refrain from breaking a sweat because of our hair. Now you guys know that the Goddess is all about her hair but yet I refuse to be a slave to it. I won’t let my hair (or the hair being lent to me) prevent me from maintaining a healthy lifestyle and you shouldn’t either. Everything is not a fashion show, when it’s time to sweat, SWEAT!! Weave or no weave, tie that bad boy down and get ON ER TOES!!! Part of caring about yourself has nothing to do with your “tight ass hairdo”, it involves nutrition, exercise, spirituality and in the Goddess’ opinion, oral hygiene (the Goddess has some of the nicest teeth you’ve ever seen, really I do!) You know I am not advocating completely abandoning your fab, just remember that total care for yourself is also a big part of your fab equation. Take the weave out if it means you’re gonna neglect your body otherwise, it’s just not worth or learn to care for your tresses in a way that allows you to be free, free from weather concerns or concern about what a little sweat will do to your doo. Try this magazine for great tips on maintaining an active lifestyle without sacrificing your hotness.

Do not under any circumstances ever ever ever let me catch you lookin like this:

Or this:

(I have no idea what's going on with Christina but let us all take a moment and bow our heads in prayer, "Dear God, in the name of Janice Diddy Combs, please don't allow this to happen to another pretty girl, AMEN!)

And last but not least, wash your damn hair ladies! I don’t wanna sit next to or behind another biyatch whose head smells like 2 day old laundry that someone forgot to put in the dryer, stop that nastiness! You heffas get all spiffy to paint the town red and hunt for fellas with your gym bag hair, not cute! Cut it out! I know it’s difficult for us coloreds to wash everyday, but when you are exercising and participating in marathon sex sessions keep in mind that all that sweat is building up in your head and besides the funktifiedness, it’s just not a good idea to go 4 weeks without washing your hair, CUT THAT OUT!!! There are even several products now available to get your ish semi fresh between washes, like sprays that you apply directly to your scalp that help diminish the sweaty hair thing a bit. That doesn’t mean you don’t have to wash, but it will hold you over.

Toodles!
