Brew Inspiration: Eva Zeisel, 103rd Birthday Girl

As an artist (I use that term loosely, because I take it seriously) I admire people who use whatever their 'story is' to produce something uniquely and authentically 'them' that also appeals to the greater public. It's arduous and exhausting process that sometimes yields fantastic results and sometimes, well, you get crap.

In this modern world of throw away culture, I often wonder if there are even any circumstances that exist that would give us our next 'Greats' (artists, film makers, etc.) . Or have we dumbed down our expectations along with our ability to dream as we inhale this junk culture? (Pretty ironic for a blogger, I know.) It's with that that I give a shout out to one of my modern she-ros.

Eva Zeisel has been there and back. From her birth in Hungary in 1906 through her career working in all the epi-centers of design, including Berlin in the 20s, the Soviet Union in the 30s, and New York in the 50s her dramatic life-, includes being imprisoned in a Soviet prison, escaping the Nazis and setting up a new life as an immigrant in post-war New York City. A mother, a wife, a teacher of design at the prestigious Pratt Institute, all let me know that we write our own story. We define our own experiences. And the only limitations on life are our our own lack of vision. And possibly that "Tiny & Toya" marathon you find yourself sucked into. (No, just me? Ok..fine)

Her work is at once whimsical, organic and accessible.

Hell, you can get yourself some at the Crate & Barrel!
PS. I am taking donations for that table, and accept paypal!
Sharing is caring, people!
