Brewchies At The Movies: Idris Elba To Play Super Hero

Idris Elba rescues me in my dreams every night, but apparently he's about to do that in a movie for real too.

Elba will star in the film adaptation of the popular Marvel comic book, "Thor." He's set to play Heimdall, the guardian of Asgard who defends the city from intruders. The film also stars Natalie Portman and Chris Hemsworth. "Thor" tells the tale of the Norse god of Thunder.

Filming is set to begin next year.

Harvard To Teach "The Wire" Class

One of the nation's most prestigious universities is keeping it hood! Harvard University will include a course on the HBO series, "The Wire." Sociology Professor William Wilson will teach the course to help students better understand poverty. Wilson says “The Wire has done more to enhance our understanding of the systemic urban inequality that constrains the lives of the poor than any published study.”

Now, if Idris Elba makes an appearance on campus I might have to reconsider another degree.

And... (in other "Wire" news)... "The Avon Barksdale Story: Legends Of The Unwired" will be released on DVD in March 2010. The film won Best Docudrama at this year's NY International Independent Film & Video Festival. It tells the true story of Nathan Avon "Bodie" Barksdale, who was played by Wood Harris in the HBO series. Barksdale says "The Wire" was just one long commercial for the film about his real life.

Is Idris Stepping To Da Left, To Da Left?

Idris Elba’s new flick Obsessed hits theatres tomorrow. While his co-star, Beyonce, has been making the rounds to promote the movie (and her 50-11 other projects), Idris has been a virtual ghost.

That has some wondering if he’s bailing on the film (which -rumor has it- should've been a straight to Redbox release). The movie didn’t even screen ahead of its opening which is usually code for "file it next to Gigli and Glitter."

Elba didn’t make the New York City press junket. He canceled an appearance on “106 & Park” (who knew that show was still on?). His people say he’s battling the flu and he will be in attendance at tonight’s red carpet premiere in New York. 

We don’t believe you, you need more people.

Now from what I understand with this one he does plays and picture shows and he's very popular for having played a very bad guy on a drug dealer versus cop show on the television (one of the shows the Negroes are very fond of). But let us not get off track, dig into this dark meat before it's all gone.....
