Evander Holyfield Beat His Wife?

Here we go again.

Candi Calvana Smith, 3rd wife of boxer Evander Holyfield, is seeking a protective order against her husband. Smith claims he hit her in the face after the two argued about the heat being cut off in the house and the kids being too cold. Oh, but but but but wait it gets worse (© Onyx) that argument then escalated to a quarrel over church payments. Yeah, you read that right.

Holyfield allegedly told her she was being disrespectful and that she needed to "put God first in her life." They continued to argue when he asked had she been tithing to the church. Holyfield demanded she show him the check stubs to prove it. When Smith refused, that’s when she alleges he hit her in the face, on the head and on the back (White Jesus does not approve). Smith also says Holyfield has a history of violence (duh!) and has been violent in the presence of their children.

Smith wants a divorce. A court date has been set for February 18th. Holyfield reportedly has 11 children. Fertile much?

Breaking Brew: Warren Sapp Arrested

Former NFL baller and “Dancing With The Stars” twinkle toes Warren Sapp was arrested by Miami Beach police today and charged with domestic battery. The charge stems from an incident early this morning at a South Beach hotel.

The 37 year old is an analyst for the NFL Network.  Of course, he's in Miami for the Super Bowl and was set to host an event at BED Miami tonight.  You know we'll be watching for details...

UPDATE: The "incident" involved Sapp's girlfriend. Police say he allegedly choked his girlfriend around 5 am this morning at the Shore Club Hotel. Sapp's girlfriend of 2 years reportedly had "a swollen right knee and bruises on the back of her neck."

TMZ reports Sapp allowed her (the girlfriend) to sleep in his hotel room -- then came into the room early in the morning and pulled her out of bed. The alleged victim says they began arguing about guys she was hanging out with earlier Friday night.

He later threw her out of the room because he was "expecting company." We know what that means, right?  Super Bowl jump-offs! Sapp claims he was trying to help the girlfriend out of the room when she fell. SIDEBAR: Who brings a girlfriend to Super Bowl weekend?  Sand to the beach much?

Anyway, looks like Warren will be out of a job for a lil bit.  The NFL Network says he won't appear on their air until they review the incident.

SMH.

Gary Coleman Arrested For His "Diff'rent Stroke"

When I tell you this mug shot has made my year, I mean this mug shot has made my year... eff a birthday. This fire right here is like a bat mitzvah, bridal shower, New Year's Eve and Mary Kay party all rolled into one.

41 year old Gary Coleman was arrested for domestic assault in Santaquin, UT this afternoon. It's not clear when this domestic violence incident took place and there's no word on who the victim is. Police picked him up on a warrant that stemmed from a missed court date.

Coleman still hasn't posted the $1,725 bail.

Back in July, Coleman's wife locked him out of their home, telling him he "deserved" it after how he's treated him.

Hanes Sells Wife Beaters But Doesn't Endorse Them*

Hanes is putting the kibosh on its partnership with actor Charlie Sheen because of the domestic violence charges he faces thanks to that Christmas incident where he allegedly held a knife to his wife's throat.  The 44 year old actor was popped on Christmas Day and charged with second-degree assault, menacing and criminal mischief.

A company rep says the decision was a "pretty standard, straightforward call" given the nature of allegations.  Here's the official statement from spokesperson Matt Hall:
Hanes is not running the Hanes television commercials featuring Charlie Sheen, and those commercials will not run again. The commercials were suspended effective Dec. 28, the first date possible after Mr. Sheen's Christmas Day arrest.
A few print ads featuring Sheen are slated to run this Spring.  They could not be pulled due to production schedules already in motion.

So, what's your call?  Did Hanes do the right thing in pulling the Sheen ads?

Oprah Doing Double Talk On Domestic Violence?

One alleged domestic violence victim says Oprah isn't practicing what she preaches. Oprah took an anti-Chris Brown stance after the beating of Rihanna back in February: doing a show about violence and talking about the Chris-Rihanna situation on several programs. But now, the former wife of gospel star BeBe Winans says Oprah isn't remaining true to her anti-domestic violence stance.

Winans appeared on Oprah this month with his sister CeCe to sing and promote their new album. BeBe was also accused of shoving his wife back in February (did I miss a memo...was February smack a chick month?). Debra Winans claims BeBe shoved her to the ground in front of their children. But that didn't stop Oprah from having him on her show. Debra told TMZ she's "hurt by Oprah's decision to have Bebe on the show" -- especially after she refused to have Chris Brown on the show after the Rihanna incident.

BeBe's domestic violence charge is pending until a court date next year.

Oprah's people aren't talking.

So, what's your call?

Countdown To Football Season

The clock is ticking, football fans. The 2009-2010 season officially kicks off Thursday night in Pittsburgh, when the Tennessee Titans take on the Steelers in what could be a tense game, after the Titans stomped on the Terrible Towels during Tennessee's 31-14 win over the Steelers in December. It was the Steelers' only loss in their last 10 games.

So, with the start of football season approaching, we here at the Brew wanted to share what we love most about the game.

(And let the church say...Amen)

In other NFL-related news...

San Diego Chargers linebacker
Shawne Merriman was arrested on suspicion of choking his girlfriend as she tried to leave his home. Merriman's girlfriend, Tila Tequila signed a citizen's arrest warrant today, charging him with battery and false imprisonment.

The team says it's monitoring the situation.

You'll recall Tila Tequila was the star of her own reality dating show on MTV, called "A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila," where she searched for love among men and women.

I see she's back on the peen now though. Wonder for how much longer?!?

Is BeBe Gon' Have to Choke a...

Did I miss a memo? Is domestic violence the new black?

Gospel great Bebe Winans got hit with a misdemeanor assault charge after allegedly pushing his former wife, Debra, last month. Winans and his wife were apparently arguing over custody of their children when he allegedly pushed her to the ground in front of her Tennessee home.

The two were married for 16 years before divorcing in 2003. Winans is currently a judge on BET's Sunday Best 2.

Where is Oprah?
