The Video Banned By YouTube

M.I.A.'s new video for "Born Free" is too hot for YouTube! The video doesn't have any booty-poppin'...instead, it has (gasp) a political message! Well, there is a smidge of nudity but not the kind you really wanna see.  Anyway, Tuesday, YouTube yanked the so-called "real and explicit version" of "Born Free" from its site (but you can still find uploads from some crafty M.I.A. fans). YouTube claims the vid violated its rules which "prohibit content like pornography or gratuitous violence."

In the video, soldiers raid a building and arrest a young man, who's been singled out for arrest because of his hair color...basically, it's genocide for redheads.. The man (and his fellow prisoners) are then put in a concentration camp...watch.

Heaven forbid a video should actually have a message or a point of view that isn't simply looking out a Maybach window.

So, offensive? Too graphic? Too controversial?

What's your call?

And BTW, if you lost the actual words of the song while watching the video, here are the lyrics.

Networks Don’t Want You To See This Ad

The folks over at ABC and Fox don’t want you to see this ad featuring curvy, thick'ems prancing around in their skivvies.

Retailer Lane Bryant says ABC restricted its airtime and refused to show the commercial during Dancing with the Stars. Fox demanded re-cuts of the ad and only aired it during the last 10 minutes of American Idol, but only after Lane Bryant threatened to pull the plug on its advertising dollars.

BTW, no one seems to have a problem running this new Victoria’s Secret ad…

Hmmmm…double standard much? What’s your call?

Ice T Goes Off On Twitter

Never one to hold his tongue on Twitter, Ice T is railing against the very suspect letter released after the news of the legendary Guru's death.  Take a look at his tweets (from the bottom up)...

In Case You Missed It: Mo’Nique’s Brother on Oprah

If you missed yesterday’s Oprah show, then you missed Mo’Nique’s brother’s crocodile-tearful apology for molesting her as a child. Take a look…

The rest of the interview featured her parents and her other brother, but no appearance or comments from Mo'Nique. I dunno. I got a cocked, wonky side eye on this situation for some reason. What's your call?

BET Bans A Video?

Well, well, well... looks like BET grew up and got some cojones (allegedly).

Word is the network has banned the new Teairra Mari (feat. Soulja Boy & Gucci Mane) video, "Sponsor," because it teaches girls to get showered with gifts and money by having sexual relations with men.

Teairra's people sent this letter over to The YBF:

I was informed that 106 and Park, a source for African Americans to promote their music, have banned Teairra Mari's song Sponsor and other projects from surfacing on their channel. No one else will report because they don't want to put it on blast. I feel bad for the underdogs because they are not given a fair chance and its even worse when your own kind won't promote you. What's bad about Sponsor that overshadows any work that Lil Wayne, Ludacris, and many others have showcased on BET? Why is it, do you think, that booty shaking and such is allowed but a video by a woman encouraging others to make it is bad. Why is it that Lil Wayne can perform "Every Girl In the World" with his daughter on stage, but women artists have to be "appropriate". I understand if they would at least let Teairra come on the show to explain the concept behind the song. It just seems like a shady business where people who have made it have certain control over those that haven't through shady connections.

Ok, so it does seem like there's a clear double standard going on here, but, where should BET start drawing the line with some morals? Which videos and overall messages should be banned and is this something BET should even do?

What's your call?

UPDATE: Teairra tweeted that her vid has NOT been banned from BET. Interesting turn of events. I find that rumors don't exist in a vacuum...so, stay tuned...

In an attempt to revive Tiger's career, Nike has come out with this new commercial that's resurrected Tiger's late father, Earl Woods. In the ad, Tiger stares head on into the camera, never saying a word. But the voice from beyond the grave that you hear is his father's. Check it...

Is Sandy Hiding Something?

So, this Jesse James jumpoff story has been the talk of town for awhile now, with his Nazi freakiness allegations, his Vanilla Gorilla peen and whatnot. Everyone’s saying Sandy (who does have a prenup) is gonna leave his arse. Or is she?

Word on the curb now is Sandra Bullock may be scurred to roll out because Jesse may have some dirt on her (a sex tape, perhaps?). Somebody all up in Sandy’s bidness says the main reason she hasn’t packed her Oscar and chucked the deuces on the marriage yet is because “she doesn't want to trigger Jesse into attacking her publicly and revealing her secrets."

Mmkay, so lemme get this straight: he’s done the nasty with a tatted up, Hitler-lovin’ stripper and you mean to tell me there’s something more that could embarrass Sandy? The freak in me kinda wants to know.

So what’s your call? Why hasn’t she left yet? Would YOU stay and work it out?

UPDATE: Sandra says there's no freaky sex tape with her hubby. Hmmm... so what's she hiding?

Scarface, For Kids

I don’t know whether to be disturbed or to think these kids might have futures in Hollywood.

Video director Marc Klasfeld (the guy behind Jay-Z’s “Girls, Girls, Girls” video) directed this version of “Scarface School Play” with professional child actors in LA. Video of last month’s production went viral this week. Klasfeld says he expected some people to get their pannies in a bunch over the subject matter, but the father of two says he wonders why people who are vocal about the play aren’t as vocal when it comes to the sexualization of young girls in our culture. Ummmkay.

You watch and be the judge.

*Fudge you, Tony*

Confirmed: Tyler Perry To Direct “For Colored Girls”

In typical Hollywood “lemme plug my next project before you’ve seen my current project” fashion, Tyler Perry confirmed his next project at last night’s Why Did I get Married Too? premiere. He will direct the film version of Ntozake Shange’s Broadway classic “For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf.”

Perry also revealed the cast, which includes Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey, Whoopi Goldberg, Phylicia Rashad, Jurnee Smollett, Kimberly Elise, Kerry Washington and Macy Gray. The film is set to begin shooting in New York this June with a likely 2010-2011 release.

“For Colored Girls” will be the first film done under Perry’s 34th Street Films production company, a new arm of Lionsgate.  The classic 1975 play dealt with issues that many black women still face today: love problems, abortion, rape, domestic abuse and abandonment.

Video director Nzingha Stewart is expected to serve as the project’s screenwriter but that title is tricky, since Perry plans to write, direct and produce the film. You know how he does.

Anyway, what say you… is this a good marriage or do you thing Tyler will mess it up?

Brew Quotes: Usher

"I had checked out. I went all the way into being super husband and super dad, thinking, 'I've got to be serious all the time. I've got to be the man.' I put my swagger down for a minute, but I didn't throw it away. Now it's time to get it back."

-Usher, in a new Billboard article questioning whether his career is really in the sh!tter and, if so, can it be saved.

What do you think? Are Usher’s days atop the charts over? What's your call?

T.I.'s Naughty Billboard

T.I.'s new billboard for his clothing line "Akoo" (A King of Oneself) is doing what it's supposed to do... getting attention.

The billboard shows a woman pulling off a man's jeans. It's not Calvin Klein kiddie porn or anything, but some folks in Newark, NJ have their knickers in a twist about it.

Black “Leaders” Beef Over Obama’s Agenda?

The Rev. Al Sharpton and Tavis Smiley exchanged some heated debate this morning on Sharpton's radio show.  The two got into some he-said, he-said stuff about whether President Obama should specifically focus on a “Black agenda.” The exchange got personal when Rev. Al told Tavis not to talk to him like he’s stupid or distort him. At the crux of the whole debate is whether our president should have a decidedly "Black" agenda that focuses on programs to help African-Americans (Black folks…. however you prefer to identify). Take a listen…

Here's the New York Times article they're squabbling about, BTW.  So, what’s your call? Should Pres. Obama have a Black agenda?

Dumb Twit Case #49981: Kevin Hart?

Kevin Hart is a funny dude.  I happen to enjoy his brand of comedy.  But, it appears he may have gone a bit too far, according to some in Twitter land and the innawebs.

Kevin tweeted a string of comments about light-skinned and dark-skinned Black women yesterday.  He says it was all in the name of comedy.  You make the call.

Here's a clip of his stand up, if you're not familiar...

So, what's your call... offensive tweets or just comedy?

Photoshopped n' Screwed: Tina Fey Edition

I think Tina Fey might be the funniest woman to walk the Earth since Lucille Ball or [insert funny chick here]. So, I'm happy to see her on the March cover of Vogue. She's smart, beautiful, curvy and a "real" woman. One of the great qualities that adds to her realness is that scar just above her chin. It's a scar from a horrible slashing attack when she was a kid. (See, adds to her realness).

Anywho, the folks over at Vogue decided to Photoshop the scar out of Fey's cover image. Looks like they airbrushed it out and filled the shot with extra sunlight or something. The technique has caused a bit of a stir on the innawebs.

Fey's scar was certainly visible during this interview for Vogue.

So, what's your call? Was the magazine right to remove a "trademark" scar?

Brew Tube: Reaction To Wale's "Pretty Girls"

Have you seen the video for Wale's "Pretty Girls?" Well, the images in the video kicked off a firestorm of comments on Facebook and blogs across the innawebs. People are pissed that these so called "pretty girls" weren't plucked from more colors of the rainbow. Check the vid:

Ok, so vid-blogger Joy Daily went o-f-f about the video also.

Seems like this is an age-old battle that's as old as the rap video genre itself.  But, do you agree with Joy? What's your call?

John Mayer’s Peen Is Racist?

John Mayer decided to spill the beans of his relationships to Playboy. Now, I’m no fan of men who kiss and tell. I think it’s a rather bitchly trait, to be honest, but follow along…
PLAYBOY: You seem very fond of pornography.

MAYER: When I watch porn, if it’s not hot enough, I’ll make up backstories in my mind. My biggest dream is to write pornography.

PLAYBOY: You’d rather jerk off to an ex-girlfriend than meet someone new?

MAYER: Yeah. What that explains is that I’m more comfortable in my imagination than I am in actual human discovery. The best days of my life are when I’ve dreamed about a sexual encounter with someone I’ve already been with. When that happens, I cannot lay off myself.

PLAYBOY: In 2006 you began dating Jessica Simpson, and the paparazzi started stalking you, turning you into a tabloid fixture. Certainly you knew that was going to happen.

MAYER: It wasn’t as direct as me saying “I now make the choice to bring the paparazzi into my life.” I really said, “I now make the choice to sleep with Jessica Simpson.” That was stronger than my desire to stay out of the paparazzi’s eye. That girl, for me, is a drug. And drugs aren’t good for you if you do lots of them. Yeah, that girl is like crack cocaine to me.

PLAYBOY: You were addicted to Jessica Simpson?

MAYER: Sexually it was crazy. That’s all I’ll say. It was like napalm, sexual napalm.
Whoa! This puts Jessica in a whole new light for me. I never really thought of her as a sexual being. In my mind, she just makes cute shoes. Ah well, but there’s more… and this is the part that has some Black women up in arms.
PLAYBOY: Do black women throw themselves at you?

MAYER: I don’t think I open myself to it. My dick is sort of like a white supremacist. I’ve got a Benetton heart and a fuckin’ David Duke cock. I’m going to start dating separately from my dick.

PLAYBOY: Let’s put some names out there. Let’s get specific.

MAYER: I always thought Holly Robinson Peete was gorgeous. Every white dude loved Hilary from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. And Kerry Washington. She’s superhot, and she’s also white-girl crazy. Kerry Washington would break your heart like a white girl. Just all of a sudden she’d be like, “Yeah, I sucked his dick. Whatever.” And you’d be like, “What? We weren’t talking about that.” That’s what “Heartbreak Warfare” is all about, when a girl uses jealousy as a tactic.
Now, I don’t really think this is a big deal. To keep it "100" (don’t you hate that?), my vajj seems to be pretty racist too so far. But, I’m open to the possibilities (*pun intended*).

So what’s your call on John Mayer’s comments?

Lil Wayne Drops A Bomb…

While Lil Wayne was addressing the media about his shock at being asked to join the “We Are The World” re-do, he decided to drop a lil bomb of his own by comparing Haiti’s crisis to the aftermath of Katrina.

Take a look.

So, what’s your call? Is he right to compare the two? Is this gonna start a shytstorm?
