Sex Offender At The Super Bowl?

I haven't been keeping up with the foozball Super Bowl thingy.  Hell, I just learned what a "Who Dat?" was last week.  Anyway, the halftime entertainment at the Bowl will be The Who.  People who live around the stadium where the game will be played next month in Miami have received an advisory, indicating that a sex offender will be coming to town.  That offender is Pete Townshend of The Who.

Pete Townshend

Townshend is a registered sex offender thanks to an arrest seven years ago in the UK during a pedophilia sting.  While he wasn't convicted of the crime, he was placed on a sex offenders list for admitting he used a credit card to look at nasty kiddie pics online.

So lemme get this straight... folks get their knickers in a twist over a little flash of Janet Jackson boob, but a registered offender gets invited to the show?  Ummm, ok.

Mike Vick Wins Courage Award

Some good news for baller Michael Vick.

Vick won the Ed Block Courage Award, voted on by his teammates on the Philadelphia Eagles, months after his return to the field. Vick took a shall we say "hiatus" for 18 months in a federal prison for running a dog fighting ring.

The vote among Vick's fellow Eagles was unanimous. The Ed Block Award honors players who show commitment to sportsmanship and courage. Each of the 32 NFL teams selects a recipient.

Naturally, the PETA people had something to say:
The Philadelphia Eagles fumbled when they gave Michael Vick the Ed Block Courage Award, which was named after a man who advocated in behalf of abused children. Michael Vick should not be the person anyone points to as a model of sportsmanship, even though he has now exchanged dogs for touchdowns after serving time for extreme cruelty to animals. We wish him well in educating others, but this is not appropriate and does not mark a joyous moment in NFL history.
Vick has taken his anti-dog fighting message to schools through his work with the Humane Society. As an avid dog-lover, I hate what Vick did. But at some point, you have to move on, right? So, when will PETA follow suit?

Let Me See That... Jock Strap?

Oakland Raider Tommy Kelly lost his pants but his team won the game against Denver yesterday.  Hey, win some, lost some, right?

Good thing he was wearing his jock strap.  Well, good for him... not for anybody wanting a peek at the man meat.

Kelly's pants-drop comes a month after Chicago Bear Devin Hester flashed his bootay for millions of viewers.

NFL Booty!

I always love a little chocolate during the day... usually in a cup with some marshmallows in the morning but this right here will do!

Peep the vid of Devin Hester getting his boo-tay exposed on the teevay!

Too bad Devin and his Bears lost to the Eagles.  But the rest of us won with that view.

Ochocinco To Launch His Own Network

My favorite NFL spectacle, Chad Ochocinco, is launching an iPhone app. Chad's tweets have gotten him in trouble with the NFL. But that's not stopping him from moving on with his techy-plans.

The Cincinnati Bengal says he's starting a launching a Twitter-based news network with Motorola, called OCNN (“Ochocinco News Network”).  He wants to use his contacts around the league to tweet breaking news before major news players can get it.

OCNN's slogan is: “If I break it, you might as well believe it”.

I love this dude.  He's so random.

Rush Ousted From NFL Bid

Rush Limbaugh won't be putting 5 on the St. Louis Rams. The group of sports businessmen trying to buy the Rams have dumped Limbaugh amid mounting controversy surrounding the radio host.

A spokesman for the group said it had become evident that Limbaugh's involvement with their bid for the team had become a distraction.

Limbaugh says he won't back down and is threatening legal action.

Neither the Rams nor the NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell are commenting on the situation.

The plot thickens...

Black Players Won't Rush for Rush

New York Jets linebacker Bart Scott says he'd never play for the St. Louis Rams if right winger Rush Limbaugh is successful in his bid to buy part of the franchise.

Scott said:
"I know I wouldn't want to play for him. He's a jerk. He's an ---. What he said (about Donovan McNabb) was inappropriate and insensitive, totally off-base. He could offer me whatever he wanted, I wouldn't play for him. ... I wouldn't play for Rush Limbaugh. My principles are greater and I can't be bought."

New York Giants defensive end Mathias Kiwanuka also aid Limbaugh's views on race would keep him from playing for the Rams.

Kiwanuka said:
“I am not going to draw a conclusion form a person off of one comment, but when it is time after time after time and there's a consistent pattern of disrespect and just a complete misunderstanding of an entire culture that I am a part of, I can't respect him as a man."

Limbaugh resigned as an ESPN NFL analyst back in 2003 after suggesting the media only cared about Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb's success because he's black.

I love it when athletes actually have opinions!

Limbaugh is parterning with Dave Checketts, owner of the National Hockey League's St. Louis Blues, to buy part of the Rams.  The negotiations are still in the early stages.

Countdown To Football Season

The clock is ticking, football fans. The 2009-2010 season officially kicks off Thursday night in Pittsburgh, when the Tennessee Titans take on the Steelers in what could be a tense game, after the Titans stomped on the Terrible Towels during Tennessee's 31-14 win over the Steelers in December. It was the Steelers' only loss in their last 10 games.

So, with the start of football season approaching, we here at the Brew wanted to share what we love most about the game.

(And let the church say...Amen)

In other NFL-related news...

San Diego Chargers linebacker
Shawne Merriman was arrested on suspicion of choking his girlfriend as she tried to leave his home. Merriman's girlfriend, Tila Tequila signed a citizen's arrest warrant today, charging him with battery and false imprisonment.

The team says it's monitoring the situation.

You'll recall Tila Tequila was the star of her own reality dating show on MTV, called "A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila," where she searched for love among men and women.

I see she's back on the peen now though. Wonder for how much longer?!?
